About Me

My lovely teacher and once business partner

Who I am

I began my yoga practice when I was at The University of Edinburgh studying History of Art. I attended classes at my local Buddhist Centre not motivated by spirituality, but on the advice of my doctor; I had a dodgy hip at 19. I continued my practice after university and found a local class in Waterloo in the gym taught by an Iyengar Yoga teacher – Brenda Hodbell. Thanks to Brenda I developed a regular practice which shaped my entire life, she encouraged me to become a teacher. Jo Robertson (pictured with) me was my next major teaching influence. My teaching journey began over twenty years ago and is ongoing. My yoga training is an on-going endeavour I enjoy enormously. My current mentor is Penny Chaplin who is an incredible teacher. My hip is still functioning well…

As well as working as an Iyengar yoga teacher and running my own yoga studio. Yogabase was in Islington until 2020. I also worked in editorial and design in publishing and then charity sector mainly in health advocacy and women’s issues.

I am now running Iyengar Yoga London which is the city’s original Iyengar yoga centre first opened the centre in 1984.

My teaching

Before I begin it’s important to recognise that all teachers of Iyengar yoga are trained to very high standards. It has taken over a twenty years of practice and training to make me the teacher I am. I continue professional development and I train to increase my knowledge, understanding and strength which means my teaching is always fed with further depth and comprehension.

I teach with that depth of understanding, I also love yoga. My classes are fun and interesting. You will learn something from my classes about yoga but about yourself.

“Lucy’s teaching is specific, clear, inspired… Lucy makes hard work pay off and her classes are focussed, relaxed and enjoyable.”

— Caroline Holdaway

“Lucy is a brilliant, very clear teacher. I’m not at all experienced in yoga but I found her classes to be supportive and detailed – as well as being beneficial & uplifting.”
